Which staff paper layout should you print?
Six families cover the way people actually write music by hand. Pick the family first and the layout list narrows to sheets that suit the instrument.

What is a grand staff, and when do you need one?
A grand staff joins a treble staff and a bass staff with a brace so one player reads both hands at once. Piano, harp and organ music uses it because the right hand usually sits above middle C and the left hand below it.
Choose 5 or 6 grand staves for a full arrangement, or the melody staff above a grand staff when you want a tune written over its accompaniment. The keyboard diagrams are a different job: they give you empty keyboards to mark fingering or voicings on, and they pair well with the guide to piano keys and notes.
How many staves fit on one page?
Eight staves leave room between the lines for lyrics, fingering and analysis. Twelve fit a longer passage on a single sheet, which is what you want for copying an existing piece.
Both counts keep the same margins on A4 and US Letter, so a sheet printed in either size stays in proportion.
Tablature and diagram sheets
Tablature replaces pitches with fret numbers on one line per string: six lines for guitar, four for bass. It reads faster for anyone who learned by playing rather than by reading notation.
The diagram sheets give you 30 empty chord boxes or fretboard grids instead. Use them to collect voicings and scale shapes rather than to write a piece.
Choral layouts
A choral sheet stacks one staff per voice inside a bracket and labels each line so every singer finds their part.
SATB is the four-part standard. SSAA and TTBB set upper and lower voices on their own, while SSA, SAB and STB are three-part settings for choirs where one section is small. SATB with piano adds a grand staff below the voices for the rehearsal accompaniment.
How to print staff paper at the right size
Staff line spacing is only correct when the printer leaves the page at its original size, so the scaling setting matters more than the printer does.
- Choose the paper size your printer holds: A4 outside North America, US Letter inside it.
- Open the downloaded PDF in a PDF reader rather than a browser preview.
- Set scaling to 100% or actual size, and turn off fit to page.
- Print one sheet and check that the outer margins are even before printing the rest.

Is the staff paper free to print?
Yes. Every layout downloads as a PDF without an account, a watermark or a limit on how many sheets you print.
Can I print staff paper on US Letter?
Yes. Choose US Letter next to the layout and the sheet is rebuilt for 8.5 by 11 inches with the same margins as the A4 version.
Which clef should I choose?
Pick the clef you read: treble for voice, guitar, flute and a keyboard right hand; bass for cello, bassoon, bass guitar and a keyboard left hand; alto for viola; tenor for the upper range of trombone, cello and bassoon. Blank staves let you draw your own.
Does anything I choose get uploaded?
No. The PDF is assembled in your browser and saved straight to your device, so no selection is sent to a server.
Can I write on the sheet on a tablet?
Yes. The sheets are vector artwork, so they stay sharp at any zoom in a notes app that opens PDFs.
